Congratulations to Betsy Miller!
Student Betsy Miller did a tremendous job at the regional debate tournament last weekend, placing 1st place in Public Forum and Humorous Interpretation. She is now qualified to attend Nationals in either event this upcoming summer. Betsy put a lot of work in to this accomplishment, and I could not be more proud of her. :) So next time you see Betsy in class or around town, give her a thumbs up and a congratulations!
Hamlet at Juanita K.!
The
extra credit opportunity for April will be the play Hamlet
by William Shakespeare being performed at Juanita
K. Hammons Hall for Performing Arts
at 8:00 PM on
April 11-14
by Missouri State University students. Tickets are originally $12,
but if you turn in the voucher that I will pass out in class the day
before tickets go on sale, tickets will be marked down to $8. This is
an incredible opportunity, and I encourage all students to take
advantage of seeing such a famous play performed by such a talented
cast of young performers. To prove attendance of the play, each
student will be required to keep their ticket stub and turn it into
me. In addition to the ticket stub, each student must also write me a
half page paper over whether they enjoyed the performance and how
they believe that event will or will not help them succeed in English
3. Be honest! There is no penalty for a difference in opinion!
Picnic in the Park!
Don't forget to bring a packed lunch to class on April 20, 2012 in order for us to have a picnic in Sequiota park during class. You do not need to bring your binder or any note taking materials because we will be having an open discussion forum about The Great Gatsby and our thoughts towards it. Students may bring their copy of The Great Gatsby to the park if they wish to do so. Students are allowed to drive to Sequiota and back, but they MUST first check in in my classroom before the class leaves and check in after they return to school. Failure to do so will result in a loss of participation points.
